2011 Annual May Procession - National Shrine of the Miraculous Medal

May 1st

3:30 p.m.

Perryville, MO, Perry County

This is an outdoor procession sponsored by the Association of the Miraculous Medal. The procession forms in front of Saint Mary’s of the Barrens Church and processes through the grounds to the grotto while participants recite the rosary. Hymns are led by the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Choir. Roses and petitions are presented to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the May crowning concludes the annual event. Bollinger County Museum of Natural History / Mississippi River Valley Scenic Drive

The Bollinger County Museum of Natural History will participate in the annual Mississippi River Valley Scenic Drive on Saturday April 30th and Sunday May 1st. The museum will be open special hours of 9-5:00pm on
Come by to see what’s new at the museum. Get a chance to see the Divided Loyalties: Civil War Documents From the Missouri State Archives, Dee the Columbian Mammoth Skull replica from the largest mounted mammoth in North America along with Dima a 7-8 month mummified baby Wooly Mammoth replica. Be sure to catch Stan the T-Rex Skull replica while he is still visiting and get a sneak peak at the new bug collection. See a 3ft. long Sea Scorpion replica from the Silurian Period and a giant millipede replica, Arthropleura armata, the largest known land invertebrate of all time. Watch out for the Giant cockroach replicas, and the Giant Dragonfly replica, all from the Carboniferous Period when creatures grew extra large. Items offered for sale have been grown or produced within a 75 mile radius of Cape Girardeau. Among the products that will be available are lettuce, asparagus, onions, radishes, herbs, pickles, relishes, jellies, honey, eggs, grass-fed beef and pork, walnuts, and lots of bedding plants and flowers. And, as always, there will be delicious baked goods. During the growing season there will be a wide variety of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables as well as many specialty items.

Garden Walk/Bolduc House Museum Herb & Plant Sale

Annually, the weekend after Mother’s Day offers tours of the manicured gardens around historic downtown such as the heirloom plant sale and activities at the Bolduc House, Garden Tour and Tear at the Felix Valle House, Boxwood and Lily Sale at the Guibourd House, and other gardens with native plant sales, along with garden related antiques, specials at local restaurants, horse drawn wagon rides, a Farmers Market on Saturday morning, a bird house and bird feeder contest, and a raffle drawing. $7 tickets for individuals, $6 groups of 5 or more.

Audubon Days is a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of John James Audubon’s partnership with Ferdinand Rozier. There are two speakers already set up: • Dr. Roswell Eldridge, of Rensselaerville, NY, a renowned authority on Audubon’s life, will give a seminar on Saturday. • Brian “Fox” Ellis, an Audubon impersonator, will conduct a bird walk on Friday. And there will be much more to come! Admission is free.
