River Heritage Association Meeting - Fredericktown
On August 6th, the River Heritage Association had the pleasure of holding its meeting in Fredericktown. Prior to our meeting, members toured a number of historic sites in and around Fredericktown. We visited the Civil War Battlefield which is located approximately 1 mile south of the courthouse on Main Street. We also had the opportunity to learn more about the Battle of Fredericktown at their Civil War Museum, located at 156 South Main. So, what's the story of Old Abe? You'll find out at both the Civil War Museum and at the Madison County Courthouse, on the Courthouse Square. We took a step back in time at the Berryman Log Cabin and One Room Log Schoolhouse, located on LaChance Street and at the Underriner House and Pratte Trading Post, located at 124 Buford Boulevard. We next toured the Vance Aviation and Transportation Museum, located in the Old Fredericktown Depot at Collier and Murta Streets. We then enjoyed some of the wonderful wine of Vance Vineyards and Winery, located at 1522 Madison County Road 212, just off of Highway 72 East. We then headed to our meeting location which was held at Trinity Lutheran Church for a wonderful meal prepared by the church's mens and womens groups. Delicious! I would encourage you to browse the pictures below and then plan your getaway to beautiful Fredericktown. There's a whole lot just waiting to be discovered. Enjoy!
A special thanks to Carole Magnus with The Foundation for Historic Preservation for all of her efforts in coordinating our tours and meeting location.
